About After High School Roadmap

A small reference site on transition planning for students with IEPs: the goals, the agencies, the college and work routes, and the legal changes at 18.

Why this site exists

Planning for life after high school involves a long list of pieces: an IEP section with its own rules, assessments, courses, agencies that are not the school, and decisions that arrive when a student turns 18. Families and transition coordinators often meet these pieces one at a time and out of order. We put them on one map, in plain language, with the sources named.

Who it is for

Families of students with IEPs who are around 14 to 21, transition coordinators, case managers, and the students themselves. The guides describe how the federal rules work and how teams often organize the work. Your state and your child's team set the details.

How it is run

After High School Roadmap is independent. It has no ads, no affiliate links, and nothing for sale. Guides are written by the editorial desk, currently Priya Raman, and re-checked on the schedule on the how we review page.

What it does not do

It does not give legal, financial, benefits, or educational advice. It does not replace your child's IEP team, your state vocational rehabilitation agency, the Social Security Administration, a college disability office, or an attorney. Examples are invented and never use real student information. On sensitive topics such as guardianship, SSI, and Medicaid, we give an orientation and point you to the official source, because the details depend on the state and on the person.
